This blog is the joint product of seminar students at the College of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Texas. Titled “Building a Better World: Modern Architecture and Social Reform,” the course examines the broad spectrum of design strategies that architects, planners, reformers, and others have used to solve social problems; everything from prisons and utopias to city planning, parks, and “green” buildings. I’ve asked the students to collect and share articles/links from contemporary sources that demonstrate the ongoing power and popularity of this strategy in contemporary society. The idea is to get them to read and identify the ideas they are encountering in class in more contemporary, every day sources.
