After reading about parks in this weeks texts and the conversation last week about suicides at Foxconn I recalled a documentary on Suicide Forest in Japan. This lead me to research current national park suicides in America. It’s interesting how contrasting the factory is to the national parks and yet the manner in which each group responds to the deaths are similar. Foxconn puts up nets while the national parks are still trying to figure out what to do to prevent more suicides. So far the parks suggestions are similar to Foxconn in that creating physical obstacles will detour or prevent intentional deaths. Another interesting concept is how the increasing number of suicides effect park planning and policies.
